It’s fairly rare that older titles break records and continue to bring in new players. So, when a now 6 year old game rakes in huge numbers and becomes newsworthy so late in life – it’s an impressive feat. Rainbow Six Siege did exactly that this week hitting over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam. 201,503 to be exact. That’s a good bit more than the game’s previous record of 199,307 set back in March of 2020.
What contributed to the spike? Well, a recent free-to-play window certainly helped. Plus, the game is just now going into a new season including a new event, a new operator was released not too long ago, and other updates played a part as well.
Siege has managed to defy all odds and become one of the world’s most popular and respected shooter titles. The game launched in April of 2015 and is now available on multiple platform including Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. Siege is by far one of the most notable games under the Ubisoft umbrella.
Over the years, the development team has updated and expanded upon the original game immensely. There are now 59 total playable operators for users to pick from on attack and defense sides. Additional maps have been added and old maps have been revamped. A lot of fine tuning has occurred for overall balance in gameplay (although the R6 community has many complaints about some updates).
